It's the beginning of the month and Google does its dance. One of Google's policies is no duplicate content. So how does this affect the Template industry? Well it seems Template Monster got hit. It seems that the success of their cobrandable web template affiliate program, creates duplicate content on a ton of sites.
Template Monster had been enjoying their success for some time now, offering others to join their web template affiliate program and publish their templates on their affiliates sites. The smart little GoogleBot saw this as "duplicate content", and like a snap Template Monster is gone in Google.
Along with their natural search engine rankings Template Monster is also losing business because all their affiliates need to completely revamp the way their templates are being displayed. I see the logic in what Google has done, yet it goes against the capitalist thought of being the best in business. Here Template Monster has cornered the web template market by creating an affiliate program that has yet been unmatched by others. Their creative thought and vision now gets them banned from the most powerful search engine on the Net.
Well this is a lesson learned...unfortunately the hard way. I feel Template Monster will bounce back. I have seen this happen with other sites that got completely destroyed when Google does its dance. The down side is that it takes time, and in the business world "Time is Money".
If you need a Template Monster today. |
